FAQ
What’s the difference between hard gel and builder gel?
They are often used interchangeably, however it is best to think of builder gel as the umbrella term for all gels that structure and/or extend the nail. There are few types of builder gels namely hard gel and soft gel. They are are used to strengthen and build nails, but hard gel is more durable and can be filed into shape, while soft gel is usually softer, easier to apply, and self-leveling. All of KAPU gels are hard gels for high durably and wear. This also means they cannot be soaked off and have to be filed down for fills or removal.

We recommend following the instructions provided with each product to ensure the best results and avoid any potential irritation. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, please perform a patch test before use. We also will provide MSDS information on our website.
Is gel safer/better than acrylic?
It depends on your needs! structured gel (like KAPU hard gel) is easier to file and a glossier finish, while acrylic is strong, widely available and usually cheaper. Many clients and nail techs all over the world prefer gel for its lightweight feel and no fumes or odor.
Did you know that in most countries outside the U.S., structure gel is the go-to product for nail enhancements?
Does hard gel damage your nails?
Not when applied and removed correctly. Damage usually happens from over-filing or improper removal. Always prep properly, and never peel or force gel off!
What is a Russian manicure/pedicure?
A Russian manicure is a precise and meticulous dry manicure technique that uses an E-file to gently exfoliate and clean the cuticle area. It creates a clean, elongated nail bed and allows for ultra-precise polish application all without water. It results in a clean, polished look and longer-lasting results. With proper prep and product application, a Russian manicure with hard gel or gel polish can last 3–4 weeks without chipping or lifting.

Which lasts longer—gel or acrylic nails?
Acrylics tend to be harder and more durable, especially for long extensions. However, high quality hard/soft gel can last just as long with proper application and care. Check out our nude selections of premium hard gels!
Which is healthier—gel or acrylic?
Both are safe when applied by a trained professional. Gels tend to be more flexible and gentle on the nails, and easier on the professionals body long term because it does not release fumes or have an odor. Because of the fumes, long-term exposure to acrylic products can lead to respiratory issues, skin sensitivity, and allergic reactions due to repeated contact with chemicals like EMA or MMA. Proper ventilation, protective gear, and safe handling can reduce these risks.
Can I switch from acrylic to hard gel?
Absolutely! Many nail techs and clients switch to hard gel for its lighter feel and glossy finish. Be sure to fully remove acrylic before applying gel to avoid lifting.
